  1. Practical treatment examples

The custom orthotic shoe is still the supreme discipline in pedorthics. In this lecture block colleagues will present cases from their practice and explain how they solved the treatment tasks.

  1. Investigation of causes

The area where the pain is located is not always identical with the area causing the pain. The art of physicians, physical therapists and pedorthists lies in finding the cause of the pain, since this is the key for the correct therapy. With the help of selected examples it will be demonstrated how this cause study can be successful in an interdisciplinary team and what consequences can be deducted from the findings.

  1. Proof of efficacy in treatments with assistive devices

Sensorimotor foot orthotics was not considered during the adjustment of product group 08, foot orthotics, of the German assistive devices catalogue, because the medical benefit of such foot orthotics had not yet been proven according to the state of studies. There are indeed scientific findings on these foot orthotics. But so far it has not been clear what kind of scientific proofs the German umbrella association of statutory health insurances [GKV-Spitzenverband] would accept. Also in case of other assistive devices manufacturers often do not know which proofs are necessary in order to be accepted in the assistive devices catalogue.

Representatives from health insurances, scientific institutions and from the trade will comment on this issue in order to discuss after that together how the generally accepted criteria for the proof of efficacy can be defined.

  1. Proof of efficacy in patients

Scientific studies are generally supposed to proof the effect of an assistive device. It is however even more important that an assistive device does indeed help the individual patient. This can nowadays be checked and proven in different ways. During the lecture various approaches will be presented how such a revision can be put into practice and which parameters can be used to measure an improvement.
